In Praise of Goodnight Moon

The period in Western history after the Dark Ages but before the Enlightenment is known as the Renaissance because it was a rediscovering--or literally "rebirth"--of forms of art, technology, and philosophy that had generally been lost since ancient times. The implication in calling it a "Renaissance" is that it all already existed in the ancient world, and our society was not inventing new things but merely becoming aware once more. Of course, that's not entirely true. Music, art, theater and fashion were more advanced during the Renaissance than they had ever been during
Videos are back

During our epic mega super ultra two-week vacation, I somehow lost the power adapter for the video camera. (Probably shouldn't even have brought it.) I've finally managed to transfer the videos to the computer so I'm starting to process and upload them. Unlike photography, I have very little experience with videography; in fact, I'm using a different video editing program every time. So the videos will be slower in seeing the light of day, but I'm working on it, I promise. As proof, here's the first: a video of Nathan meeting his great grandmother in Canada.

As promised, photos are up from our two week vacation to Canada and San Diego. Only a month late. And by popular request, they're on Facebook too.

I'm Nervous Too

Today is Nathan's first day with the nanny. She told me this morning that the first day with a new family always makes her nervous. I didn't tell her that I'm nervous too.
Nathan crawls

Nathan crawled for the first time today. For a couple months now, he would get into crawling position and rock back and forth, or even sometimes crawl backwards. He also mastered the art of flopping and rolling to the point where he could get pretty much anywhere he wanted, but this is the first time he really crawled. Yes, of course there's a video. It's under 3 minutes and you can feel free to kill the sound (unless you want to hear me explaining to Nathan that we don't chew on Daddy).
