Koplowicz & Sons
koppie — Mon, 12/17/2012 - 12:12
I am pleased to announce my new professional website, Koplowicz & Sons. It's the product of several weeks' worth of effort. In the process, I taught myself several new technologies, including:
New Kid, New Gallery
koppie — Mon, 11/26/2012 - 07:12
It's time to upload some photos of Aaron (since he's almost 2 weeks old) but my old photo gallery stopped working. It was getting pretty long in the tooth anyway; the software behind it (Gallery2) is three years old. It never integrated properly with Drupal and took a lot of work to maintain. It's still active for 69thnewyork.com, and you can still access all the old photos and features at koplowicz.com/gallery2.
Google vs. Yahoo: Geotagging
koppie — Tue, 03/27/2012 - 04:46
I've hardly made it a secrety that I love Google and everything they do. But I also like to emphasize that I don't think everything they do is wonderful simply because I'm a fanboy. Rather, I am a fanboy because everything they do is wonderful. If the day comes where they start making terrible products, or someone else is making better, then I will switch allegiance. Will that day come? Probably; I used to say the same thing about Yahoo.
How Facebook Learned from AOL's Mistakes

So, AIM is dead. That's AOL Instant Messenger. Let me back up.

How to make your text look good

I'm in love with this blog called Shady Characters by Keith Houston. It delves into the history of punctuation marks, and the result is drama, political intruige, and passion. Think The Da Vinci Code for the ampersand.
SOPA Blackout: Its Consequences
koppie — Wed, 01/18/2012 - 20:58
So, a lot of websites, including Wikipedia, are blacking themselves out today to protest SOPA. Apparently someone has decided to take the protest one step further: instead of just imagining life without Wikipedia (because it's blacked out because of SOPA), some people are acting it out. I'm seeing a bunch of Twitter hashtags for #factswithoutwikipedia. Here's the best of the lot:

Follow Me On . . .
koppie — Wed, 09/21/2011 - 12:10
A new feature on Koplowicz.com: a "follow me" block. It lists the 8 other places on the internet where I have a presence. Below that is the "subscribe" box, where you can get updates from this site via email (thanks to Google). Finally, there are the "sexy bookmarks" icons at the bottom of each post, with handy links to share it on Facebook, Twitter, or your other favorite social thingy.
This is all in preparation of bigger things to come. Stay tuned.
Drupal Video Gallery with jQuery
koppie — Thu, 09/01/2011 - 09:10
What's new? Oh my goodness, so many things I don't have time to talk about. But I absolutely have to share this. I spent all day trying to figure it out. Congratulations, net wanderer, you get to benefit from my wisdom.
The task: Create a video gallery in Drupal. The client wants multiple videos attached to a single node, with thumbnails. When you click on a thumbnail, the video opens in a larger box on the same page. The videos will either come from youtube or vimeo.

Help me test something
koppie — Sat, 06/25/2011 - 01:42
Google just came out with their own version of the "Like" button. I'm testing it on my website. Please help me by clicking on the "+1" button.
This is Google's third or fourth attempt to chip away at Facebook. Will it work? Hard to say.
