Nathan became a Jew today. We hired Rabbi Shriebman to officiate. We first met him at High Holiday services and were very impressed. He's Reconstructionist, so his views on Judaism are slightly different from mine, but I find his approach to be very refreshing and modern. He finds ways of making you really feel the spirit of every part of the service. He recommended a mohel, Dr.

Baby came home from the hospital today. Today was hectic for another reason . . . ask me if you're curious. Anyway we got back to the hospital at 8:30 pm to discharge the little guy, and an hour later we were on our way home. Baby ate and went to sleep. It was a big new experience for him, seeing the outside world, but he handled it very well. It was little overwhelming for Mommy and Daddy too, but we're all doing great.

How are Mom and Baby?

They're both doing well. Yelena will probably be discharged today (Monday). She's still sore but feels better every day and is in good spirits. Baby is still small. It's taking him a while to learn how to eat, and in fact most babies lose weight their first week. He seems to prefer sleeping, which won't help him grow. But he's slowly getting the hang of it so hopefully we'll see him start to gain weight soon. The hospital will probably hold on to him through the end of the week, but they may take him out of the incubator today or tomorrow, which is a good sign.
I spent most of yester

Aaron & Julia's wedding photos (first batch)
koppie — Fri, 11/14/2008 - 17:12
The first two galleries from Aaron & Julia's wedding are now online!
No, they're not. Sorry. By request, I've taken the pictures down until the bride & groom have a chance to review and approve. Once they approve, the pictures will be back up. Please be patient.
New Galleries!

Trying desperately to catch up before Aaron's wedding this weekend. And by "catch up" I mean "go through photos from the past weekend;" I still have a year's worth of backlog. Anyway here are three new galleries from San Diego:

Barrel Computer
koppie — Wed, 09/17/2008 - 04:08
That's right, it's a barrel computer. A computer inside a wine barrel. At long last, here it is online.
Why? First reason: it was time for a new computer. I hadn't bought a new system in eight years. It had gotten to the point where it wouldn't be possible to simply upgrade one or two components; everything had to go.
Second reason: I have a small apartment and the computer will be going on display in my living room. I wanted something creative and unique. Lots of people have done wooden computers, but no one has done a barrel computer.
All Spammers Must Die
koppie — Sun, 09/14/2008 - 08:49
In the past few months, something cute has been happening. Spammers have been signing up for my blog. I'm sure they hoped that by signing up, they'd be better able to post spam on my blog. But it doesn't work that way because I already have spam protection in place. So I get all these people (mostly with Russian emails) who sign up for my blog. People with names like "Viagra Forever."
So, now my user signup is more demanding. It has captcha, which is enough to scare away most spammers. I

Another under-the-hood improvement to my blog. This time, integration with my gallery. Why is this special? Because now I can link directly to photos in my gallery, like so:
